About Warders of Vinyamar

When the elves came to Beleriand in exile, after the dimming of the trees, they settled in many different places. Those who followed Turgon, settled in a place by the sea, on slopes of Mount Taras in Nevrast. This became the city of Vinyamar as a great city of stone.

After living in peace at Vinyamar for many years, Umlo of the Valar came to Turgon, and guided him to the Vale of Tumladen. After the third great battle in the war of Beleriand, Turgon in secret built the city of Gondolin and prepared to depart from Vinyamar.

Before he could leave however, Ulmo warned him of peril, and bade him leave a sword and arms in Vinyamar. Thus Turgon would know the messenger who would warn him of the danger. Then Vinyamar was abandoned, and the lands of Nevrast lay empty for many long years.

Many years later, Tuor, son of Huor, came into Nevrast. Following seven swans along the shore of the sea, he came to Vinymar and entered in. There he found the arms and sword left by Turgon, and Ulmo came to him and told him to seek out Gondolin. Tuor left Vinyamar, and unwittingly brought ruin to the hidden city, but also a great hope for the elves and men of Middle-earth.

We are those who remember.
